DAVID D. GOERTZEN

David D. Goertzen of Virgil, Onto passed away Aug. 8. He was born Nov. 17, 1901 to David and Katharina Goertzen in Samara, Russia. He grew up on his parents' farm. At 18, he accepted Christ, was baptized and joined the MB Church. After high school, he attended Bible school in Orenburg. In July, 1926 the family immigrated to Canada, settling in New Hamburg, Onto He married Tina Block Nov. 20, 1927. They farmed in New Hamburg and worked for a local industry. In 1943 they moved to a farm in the Niagara Peninsula. They moved to Virgil 20 years lat er. Church was important to him; he worked in Sunday school and music. He loved reading Scripture and left a secure testimony of faith. He is remembered as a loving husband and generous father, always showing a spirit of optimism and trust. He was concerned about the spiritual welfare of all his family. He is mourned by his wife; sons Dave of Mil ton, Ont., John of Etobicoke, Ont., Frank of Maple Ridge, B.C. and Wilf of Kamloops, B.C.: daughters Elvera Neufeld of Calgary and Erna Warkentin of Virgil; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 sister. The funeral was Aug. 12 in Orchard Park Bible Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., with Robert Thiessen ministering.
