SAMUEL (SAM) H. JANZEN

Samuel (Sam) H. Janzen of Morden, Man. passed away Nov. 8. He was born July 23, 1909 to Henry and Elizabeth Janzen in Orenburg, Russia, In 1914 the family immigrated to Winkler, Man. They bought a farm in the Zion School District. At 19, he committed his life to Christ during revival meetings with Frank Wiens, a missionary to China. In his youth, he and 3 siblings formed a quartet and sang and played instruments in churches in young people's groups and at funerals. In 1934 he married Anna Klassen. He joined Morden MB Church. He sang in the choir, led congregational singing and sang with the Sunday school children for many years. He felt privileged to lead a male choir for several years, He served on many church committees. He started the day singing or humming, In 1943 they bought a farm near Morden. He had boundless energy and optimism and enjoyed farming very much. In 1970 they retired to Morden. He is mourned by Anna of Tabor Home, Morden; sons Harry of Victoria, Lawrence of White Rock, B.C. and Leonard of Morden; daughters Evelyn Reimer of Morden and Lois Janzen of White Rock; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister. The funeral was Nov. 13 in Westside Community Church, Morden, with Russ Toews ministering.
