CORNELIUS GOERTZ

Cornelius Goertz of Kitchener, Ont. passed away on September 14. He was born May 11, 1903 to Franz and Maria (nee Born) Goertz in Alexanderpol, southern Russia; at age 18 ac cepted Jesus Christ as Saviour, was baptized and joined the MB Church; completed high school, and a three-year Bible course under Rev. Johann J. Toews; left Russia via Moscow to Germany in 1929; came to Brazil with mother and brother George in 1933; married Maria Klassen in Curitiba in 1936; moved to Canada in 1948, farmed in Virgil, Onto for two years then returned to Brazil, eight years later back to Kitchener. He was one of the founding members of Zion (Kitchener) MB Church. He is survived by wife Maria; daughter Ana-Maria (Mrs. J. Kramer) of Ottawa; four sons: Helmuth of Conestaga, Ont., Artur, Bill and Herman of Kitchener; two brothers and 10 grandchildren. Funeral service was held September 17 in the Zion church, with pastor Rudy Janzen and Rev. John Schulz in charge.
