At the age of 23, he accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour and was baptized into the Mennonite Brethren Church. Through out his life he enjoyed music, and passed a love for it on to his children. He did a lot of singing during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; by five sons and their wives: Nick and Irene, Jake and Louise, John and Gertrude, all of Leamington, Harry and Eva of Wheatley, Ont., and Harold and Diana of Edmonton; three daughters and husbands: Nettie and Abe Dyck of Camden, Ont., Irene and Fred Morley of Leamington, and Anne and Harvey Neufeld of Cookville, Tennessee; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. The funeral was held July 14 in the Leamington MB Church, with Arthur Willms and David Derksen in charge.
