JACOB SIEMENS

Jacob Siemens of St. Catharines passed away ,Jan. 25. He was born Jan. 21, 1907 to Jacob and Sara Siemens in Petrovka, Orenburg, Russia. The family moved to Saratov, Siberia in 1912. He married Justina Wiens in 1928 in eastern Russia near the Amur River. They fled across the Amur into China in 1930 and immigrated to Paraguay in 1932. While the struggle for survival was hard, there was family contentment. He was a good provider and family man. He became involved in village government and joined the MB Church. They immigrated to Canada in 1950. He farmed for 10 years near Edmonton, then became a carpenter. He retired in 1974. He started furniture production as a hobby in his garage. In 1988 they moved to St. Catharines and joined Scott St. MB Church. During his retirement, he became keenly aware of God's blessings, his loyal helpmate, his children and material blessings. He is survived by his wife; children Jake of St. Catharines, Elizabeth Schmidt of Edmonton, Rudy of Fonthill, Ont., Sara Klassen of Jordan, Ont. and Elvira Pain, Bill Siemens and Elsie Bargen of Edmonton; 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The funeral was Jan. 29 in Scott St. MB Church, with John Unrau ministering.
