KATIE SUDERMAN

Katie Suderman of Sardis, B.C. passed away Apr. 26. She was born Jan. 25, 1899 to Johan and Anna Krause in Blumenfeld, Russia. She accepted Christ Apr. 26, 1921. In July, 1921 she was baptized in the Dnieper River near Nikapol and joined the local MB church. She married Jacob Suderman May 5, 1922 during a time of famine. In 1923 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Steinbach, Man. They moved to Winnipeg in 1924 and to Vancouver in 1930. They bought Willowmoor Auto Court and Garage in Sardis in 1931 and later built a home on the adjacent 5 acres. Here daughter Viola was born; 4 previous children had died. After Jacob had an accident in 1965, causing brain damage, they sold the farm and moved into Sardis. He died May 12, 1969. In the last 5 years she suffered from weakness and failing health, but never complained and constantly found reasons to be thankful. As long as she was on earth, she felt God had a purpose for her: to pray. In the last 2 weeks she desired to be with the Lord. She is survived by her daughter Viola in Sardis and 1 brother. The funeral was Apr. 30 in Greendale MB Church, with Len Doerksen and David Froese ministering.
