HELEN PENNER

Helen Penner of Herbert, Sask. passed away Mar. 14. She was born Nov. 10, 1907 to Jacob and Helena Toews. She attended school near Greenfarm, Sask. and in southern Manitoba, where her father was a teacher. She accepted Christ and joined Greenfarm MB Church. She served faithfully as choir member, ladies' aid president and a support to her husband and family. She married George Penner Oct. 23, 1927. They practised hospitality toward friends, neighbours and particularly visiting missionaries, speakers and conference delegates. They were farmers all their lives. She particularly enjoyed tending the garden and cooking. She made an art of mending and loved farm animals. She moved to the senior citizens' home in September, 1983 and to the nursing home in March, 1988, but she retained her unique sense of humour and undaunted faith. Heb. 13:8 was a favourite verse. Predeceased by her husband, 1 grandson, 1 sister and 1 brother, she is mourned by her children Norman, Velma Mierau, Jean Bauer, Melvin, Lorraine Braun and Wes; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren . The funeral was Mar. 18 in Herbert MB Church, with Gene White and Henry Penner ministering.
