KATHARINA DYCK

Katharina Dyck of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away Mar. 12. She was born Dec. 14, 1896 to Cornelius and Anna Penner in Steinau, No. 1, Russia. Her parents instilled in her a love for God and pleasure in her job as seamstress. At 18, she committed her life to the Lord. She married Jacob P. Dyck Aug. 16, 1918. In 1923 they immigrated to Gilroy, Sask. They were baptized and joined the MB church. Jacob was elected church leader, and their home became a place of friendly hospitality. They farmed until 1941, when they moved to Yarrow, B.C. They fellowshipped in Yarrow MB Church. Jacob died in January, 1970. She moved to a seniors' complex near Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack, B.C. 2 years later and to Menno Home, Abbotsford in 1988. Her faith remained strong, and the love of God shone in her life. Her last days were precious times with her Saviour and family. She remained of sound mind, quoting Psalms and songs from memory and indicating her desire to be with the Lord. Predeceased by her husband, 1 son in infancy and son Peter in 1982, she is remembered by daughters Kay Schellenberg and Anne Reimer of Chilliwack and Helen Thiesen of Yarrow; sons Jacob of Abbotsford, Cornelius of Chilliwack and John, Henry and Bernie of Sardis, B.C.; 33 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter and 1 brother. The funeral was in Menno Hospital Chapel, with Henry Claassen ministering.
