PETER J. KLASSEN

Peter .J. Klassen of Steinbach, Man. passed away Feb. 25. He was born July 23, 1913 to Jacob and Catherina Klassen in Steinfeld, Zagradovka, Ukraine. The family immigrated to Canada in 1930, settling in Blumenhof, Sask. He accepted Christ in 1933, was baptized July 26, 1936 and joined the MB church in Swift Current, Sask. He married Maria von Kampen Oct. 2, 1938, and they moved to Barkfield, Man. In April, 1940 they joined Steinbach MB Church. In 1947 they moved to La Broquerie, Man., where he farmed for 28 years. He enjoyed an active life with his hands and feet close to the land. He was school trustee for Ekron School District for 9 years. He always held his faith in Christ close to his heart and spread love to all around. They retired to Steinbach in 1975. Cancer was diagnosed in fall, 1988. Predeceased by 1 sister and 3 brothers, he is mourned by his wife; daughters Elsie Harms, Zelma Quiring and Olga Oberik; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Feb. 28 in Steinbach MB Church, with John Block, Corny Rempel and Daniel Warkentin ministering.
