KATHERINA SIEMENS

Katherina Siemens of Herbert, Sask. passed away Feb. 16. She was born Aug. 30, 1903 to Peter and Wilhelmina Klassen in Goldberg, Russia. After a year in Argentina, the family reached Canada in August, 1908. They lived at Rosthern, Sask. and Borden, Sask. for 3-4 years, then homesteaded at Flowing Well, Sask. She memorized many Bible verses and as a teen accepted Christ. She was baptized June 10, 1917. She graduated from Herbert Bible School in 1923. Here she met Johann Siemens, whom she married Apr. 11, 1926 in Flowing Well MB Church. They settled on a farm near Main Centre, Sask., retiring to Herbert in 1973. She was quiet, preferring to work behind the scenes. She was very supportive of her husband in church ministry. They hosted many missionaries and visiting speakers. She was an active participant in church and sent cards to missionaries, relatives and friends. She loved gardening, reading and crocheting. She suffered from arthritis and congestive heart failure, and kidney cancer was discovered in 1988. She is remembered as a faithful wife and loving, praying mother with a ready smile and a friendly, cheerful disposition. Predeceased by daughter Helen at birth, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, she is mourned by her husband; sons John of Hague, Sask. and Herman of Abbotsford, B.C.; daughters Mary Baynes of Leoville, Sask., Linda Froese of Sardis, B.C., Olga Siemens of Medstead, Sask. and Clara Wiebe of Herbert; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. The funeral was Feb. 21 in Herbert MB Church, with Gene White ministering.
