KATIE SIEMENS

Katie Siemens of Coaldale, Alta. passed away Dec. 15. She was born Feb. 17, 1919 to John and Helen Goerz of Blumenort, southern Russia. In childhood she accepted Christ; in her teens she was baptized and joined the Mennonite Church. In 1927 the family immigrated to Canada, settling in Coaldale . In 1937 they moved to Vancouver, where she met and married Jacob D. Siemens , an ordained minister in the General Conference Mennonite Church, in 1943. In 1947 they returned to Coaldale, where they farmed for 33 years. After the children were in school, she worked in Lethbridge Auxiliary Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Coaldale MB Church, and after retirement devoted her energies to various church and para-church activities. Jacob died in 1980, and she moved to Lethbridge. She is remembered by daughters Linda Hayes of Coaldale, Helen of Calgary, Alma Kathleen of Hong Kong, Anita Keddy of Halifax and Margie Graydon of Calgary; sons Leonard of Sherwood Park, Alta., William of Coaldale, Dave of Edmonton and John of Calgary; 13 grandchildren and 3 sisters. The funeral was Dec. 18 in Coaldale MB Church, with Rudy Heidebrecht ministering. Because she enjoyed music, the memorial celebration included much scripture reading and singing.
