PETER P. MARTENS

Peter P. Martens of Killarney, Man. passed away Oct. 19 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 22, 1909 to Peter and Aganetha Martens in Kleefeld, southern Russia. The family immigrated to Canada in 1926, settling on a farm near Killarney. He accepted the Lord at 19, was baptized and joined the MB church at Lena, Man. He married Margaret Unger of H0lmfield, Man. Nov. 17, 1935. They farmed near' Killarney until 1968, when they retired to Lena. After many happy years they moved to Killarney and joined Killarney MB Church. A tumour was discovered and he entered hospital in April, 1989. After surgery, he returned home. The tumour returned and he, re-entered hospital in February, 1990, remaining there until his death. His steadfast faith was an encouragement to those who knew him. He is mourned by his wife, sons Henry of Elm Creek, Man., Jake of Killarney, Pete of Steinbach, Man., Walter of Calgary and Art of Winnipeg; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers.
