Alexandropol, Rußland, den 3. Juni.

Weil ich ein Rundschauleser bin, und neben so manchen belehrenden Artikeln auch noch viel von Freunden und Bekannten in derselben lese, so will ich versuchen, auch etwas für die Rundschau zu schreiben. Ich will hiermit Antwort geben auf die Frage des Benjamin Wedel, Gotebo, Oklahoma, nach seinen drei Brüdern. Peter wohnt mit seiner zweiten Frau im Woroneshschen, Station Anna. Sein Land ist ihm verkauft, wieviel Geld er noch überhält, weiß ich nicht. Es geht ihm schlecht. Er ist durch andere ruiniert worden. Johann Wedels wohnen in unserm Dorf. Ihr Land haben sie voriges Jahr verkauft zu 8500 Rubel. Gebäude und Garten haben sie für sich behalten. Er starb jetzt vor drei Wochen an der Schwindsucht, sehr froh im Herrn. Sie haben unter sich ein Testament gemacht. Die Erben ihres Nachlasses sind ihre drei Pflegekinder Maria Eck, Johann Neufeld und Abraham Peters, die das Erbe nach ihrer beider Tode antreten werden. Sie ist eine tüchtige Hebamme und hat diesen Beruf schon so 23 Jahre ausgeübt. Sie wird weit und breit geholt. Die Sechziger machen sich auch schon bemerkbar, aber ihrem Alter nach ist sie ziemlich rüstig. Wilhelm Wedel wohnt am Terek, wo er 80 Desj. Land hat. Er ist in dem Dorf No. 12 ganz allein wohnen geblieben, nachdem die andern alle von dort weggezogen sind. Er war vorige Woche hier und sagte, daß sein Getreide, 17 Desj. Weizen, 26 Gerste und 26 Roggen, wieder ausgebrannt sei, daß er diesen Sommer wieder ohne Ernte bleibt. Ein Glück ist es, daß sie das Vieh beinahe das ganze Jahr weiden können. Er hat neben Suworowskaja 30 Desj. Land gekauft, nun fehlt ihm noch etwas Geld, dorthin zu ziehen….

Because I am a reader of the Rundschau, and read in it so many instructional articles and as well as much from friends and acquaintances, I would like to try to write something for the Rundschau too. I would like to answer herewith the question of Benjamin Wedel of Gotebo, Oklahoma, about his three brothers. Peter lives with his second wife at Anna station, Voronezh. His land was sold, I don't know how much money he has left. He’s doing poorly. He has been ruined by others. Johann Wedel and his family live in our village. They sold their land last year for 8500 rubles, keeping the building and garden for themselves. Johann died of consumption three weeks ago now, very happy in the Lord. They made a will between themselves. The heirs to their inheritance are her three foster children, Maria Eck, Johann Neufeld and Abraham Peters, who will inherit after both of their deaths. She is a proficient midwife and has been practicing this profession for 23 years. Her services are sought from far and wide. Being in her sixties is already noticeable, but for her age she is quite sprightly. Wilhelm Wedel lives in Terek, where he has 80 dessiatine of land. He was left to live alone in village No. 12 after the others all moved away. He was here last week and said that his grain, 17 dessiatine of wheat, 26 of barley and 26 of rye, had burned out again, so that he would be without a harvest again this summer. It’s fortunate that they can graze the cattle almost all year round. He has bought 30 dessiatine of land near Suvorovka, now lacks some money to move there….
