AGANETHA MARTENS

Aganetha Martens of Winkler, Man. passed away June 24. She was born May 25, 1905 to Nikolai and Maria Wiens in Lindenhof, southern Russia. At age 7 she lost her father. She accepted the Lord as a child, was baptized in 1922 and joined the MB church. In 1925 the family immigrated to Winkler, Man., moving to a farm at Holmfield, Man. in 1927. She worked on farms as a maid. She married Abram H. Martens Mar. 28, 1928. They farmed near Holmfield until 1962, when they moved to Killarney, Man. They retired from farming in 1971. They enjoyed traveling and gardening. In fall, 1987 they moved to Salem Home, Winkler. She enjoyed reading, was a good storyteller and enjoyed fellowship at church and in the ladies' mission group. She was a ready listener and friend to her family, upholding them in prayer. Her motto was "Jesus, go before me on the road of life." Predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters, she is mourned by her husband; daughters Mary Sawatsky of Killarney, Hilda Martens of Fannystelle, Man., Kae Eiland of Palm Springs, CA, Eleanor Brouwer of Truro, N.S. and Adina Stewart of Calgary; sons Harry and Ed, both of Killarney; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
