KATHERINE BERGMANN

Katherina Bergmann of Coaldale, Alta. passed away Apr. 30. She was born Oct. 31, 1897 to Frank and Maria Born in Gnadenheim, southern Russia. Much of her childhood and youth were spent in Schoensee, Molotschna. Here she accepted Christ, was baptized and joined the MB church. Shortly after, on Oct. 25, 1925, she married Henry Bergmann. During World War II they fled to Poland. They were retaken by the Russians and deported to Siberia with 3 of their 4 children. In February, 1968 Henry died. In June, 1969 she came to Coaldale, where she joined Coaldale MB Church. She was cared for by her sister Margaret. Her life exemplified "I have kept the faith." She spent much time reading the Bible and singing spiritual songs. She loved Christian poetry and often recited selections in church services. Predeceased by her husband, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 3 children in infancy and 3 grandchildren, she is survived by her children Henry of Coaldale and Frank, Peter and Mary Heier of the U.S.S.R.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters. The funeral was May 2 in Coaldale MB Church, with Nick Reimer and Rudy Heidebrecht ministering.
