Katherine Martens

Katherine Martens of Herbert, Sask. passed away Jan. 26. She was born Jan. 26, 1899 to Isaac and Agenatha Baerg in Inwood, KS. She grew up in Buhler, KS. She moved to Main Centre, Sask. to work. She married Henry K. Wiebe Dec. 29, 1918. Shortly afterwards she accepted Christ. They were both baptized and joined Main Centre MB Church. They farmed north of Herbert, Sask. until 1960, when they sold their farm and moved to Moose Jaw, Sask. In August, 1962, Henry died of a heart attack. In August, 1965 she married Jacob Martens of Fresno, CA and moved there. She returned to Swift Current in 1977, joining Bridgeway Community Church, where she remained a member until her passing. Due to failing health she moved to Herbert Senior Citizens Home in December, 1988. Predeceased by her husband Henry in 1962 and son Richard in 1939, she is mourned by her sons Robert and Alfred; daughter Marie Gray; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 sister and 2 brothers. The funeral was Jan. 30 in the Moose Jaw Alliance Church, with Peter J. Klassen ministering.
