Mary E. Redekop

Mary E. Redekop of Kitchener, Ont. passed away Feb. 24. She was born in the Ukraine to Henry and Susannah Redekop. Her mother died when she was 4. Her father remarried, and in 1923 the family left for Canada. She was kept behind in Hamburg, Germany and Southampton, England due to trachoma, reaching Canada in February, 1924. At 15 she gave her life to Christ. The next summer she was baptized in Kelstern (Sask.) MB Church. In her late teens her father had to give up the farm, and they moved to Winkler, Man. She worked as a domestic in Winnipeg and then attended Winkler Bible School for 4 years, graduating in 1940. She returned to Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1950. She taught in high schools in Kenora, Ont., Niagara Falls, Ont. and, for 20 years, Kitchener/Waterloo. In earlier years she was active in Sunday school, VBS, midweek, Pioneer Girls and crusade counselling. Since retirement, she travelled extensively. She was an active volunteer with the Cancer Society and an active member of Kitchener MB Church. She is mourned by her brother David of Winnipeg and sisters Susan Neufeld of Winnipeg and Annie Loewen of B.C. The funeral was Mar. 1 in Kitchener MB Church, with John Wall and Ron Toews ministering.
