Elizabeth Goosen

Elizabeth Goosen of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Dec. 30. She was born Dec. 30, 1903 to Jacob and Maria Dickman in Muensterberg, Ukraine. She accepted the Lord at 15, was baptized and joined the MB church. Her parents were killed by Machno's raiders in 1919. She escaped to a neighbouring village with some other young people. In 1921 she married Heinrich Goosen in her grandmother's home. Of 9 children born to them, 2 died in infancy and eldest daughter Liese died at age 15 in 1939. In World War II Heinrich and eldest son Henry were called into service. Heinrich was never seen again. Henry spent 11 years in prison. In 1948 she immigrated to Canada with 5 children. They lived on a farm in Greendale, B.C. After the children left home, she moved to Chilliwack, B.C., joining Broadway MB Church in 1964. She loved to have company, especially her children and grandchildren, and always had a lovely meal ready. Later she move d to seniors housing behind the church. In 1977 she moved to Tabor Home in Clearbrook. Predeceased by her husband, 3 daughters, her only sister in 1984 and 1 grandson, she is mourned by her children Henry in the U.S.S.R., Mary Balzer of Saskatchewan, Peter of Greendale, Katie Redekop of Port Moody, B.C., John of Hope, B.C. and Jack of Vancouver; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
