BERNARD BRANDT
ard Brandt of Winnipeg, formerly of Fort St. john, B.C., passed away July 7. He was born Apr. 1, 1938 to john K. and Anna Brandt in Dalmeny, Sask. He moved to Manitoba and started school at Burwalde. When he was 9, the family moved to Chilliwack, B.C. He came to know the Lord in his teens, was baptized and joined East Chilliwack MB Church. He attended East Chilliwack Bible School. He then went to Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford, B.C. for grade 13. He married Rose Hooge Aug. 29, 1960 in Clearbrook, B.C. He took teacher's training at the University of British Columbia. In 1962 he began teaching in Golden, B.C. He also taught in Ocean Falls and the Queen Charlotte Islands, then moved to Fort St. John in 1968. He remained there in teaching and administration until his retirement in 1993. They were members of North Peace MB Church, where he was involved in Christian Service Brigades, Camp Sagitawa and other ministries. In 1994 he and Rose moved to Akron, Pa. to serve with MCC. He was diagnosed with pancreatic and colon cancer in September 1998. They then moved to Winnipeg to be near family. He was a loyal father, thoughtful husband and enthusiastic grandfather. He is remembered for his boisterous laugh and his Tilley hat. Predeceased by a sister and a brother, he is mourned by Rose; daughters Debbie Neufeld of Fresno, Calif. and Alissa Brandt Murenzi of Winnipeg; 4 grandchildren; 5 brothers and 4 sisters. The memorial service was July 12 in Aberdeen Evangelical Mennonite Church in Winnipeg, with Ardith Frey and Herb Brandt ministering.
