Sara Penner of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Feb. 18. She was born Nov. 27, 1926 to Franz and Lena Unger in Silberfeld, Siberia. In 1929 the family left the U.S.S.R., arriving in Paraguay in 1930. She trusted the Lord for salvation in her early youth, was baptized and joined the MB church in Fernheim Colony. On Nov. 27,1948 she married Hans Penner, a union blessed with 2 daughters, 7 sons and 1 chosen son. They lived in Landskrone, Fernheim for 4 years, but eventually moved to Brazil due to the heat and business difficulties. In December, 1963 they immigrated to Canada, moving to Vancouver in 1964. One of her greatest delights was to sing. She was in choirs since her youth. She and Hans were in the senior choir in Vancouver and in East Aldergrove MB Church, Aldergrove, B.C., which they joined in 1981. She also enjoyed ladies' club. In autumn, 1985 she became ill with leukemia. In May, 1988 doctors estimated she had 6 months to live. She was given more than a year beyond this and used theme to serve her family and be a blessing to them. She is survived by her husband, all 10 children and 8 grandchildren. The funeral was Feb. 23 in East Aldergrove MB Church, with Jacob Neufeld ministering.
