Edna Unrau

Edna Unrau of Winkler, Man. passed away Jan. 17 due to heart failure. She was born Sept. 20, 1916 to Peter and Maria Bergmann near Rosefarm, Man. She grew up on the family farm, attended school and developed a love for singing and music. She accepted Christ in her teens, was baptized May 31, 1936 and joined Plum Coulee (Man.) Bergthaler Mennonite Church. She married Abe Unrau Oct. 22, 1939. They moved to a farm near Altona, Man. and in 1945 to a farm near Myrtle, Man. They farmed until 1975, retiring to Winkler in 1979. During a revival in 1977 they recommitted their lives to the Lord. To confirm this recommitment, they were rebaptized July 31, 1977 and joined Winkler MB Church. For several years they served as custodians at this church. Their faith and commitment grew daily. She memorized much scripture while washing dishes. She prayed daily for her children and grandchildren, who were very dear to her. She remained strong in body and spirit and cared for Abe during his illness. Predeceased by I brother, 1 half-brother and 1 half-sister, she is survived by her husband; daughters Esther Hildebrand of Roland, Man. and Ruth Froese of Winnipeg; son Harvey of Winnipeg; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister and 2 brothers. The funeral was Jan. 22 in Winkler MB Church, with Wally Klassen and Jake Neufeld ministering.
