text of obituary:

Minister, Nearly 90 Years Old, Laid to Rest at Goessel.

One of the largest funerals ever held at the Alexanderwohl church north of Newton took place there yesterday afternoon when the aged Rev. Henry Banman, for many years minister of the church, was laid to his final resting place. Had he lived till April 19, he would have been 90 years old. Born in Russia, he came to this country as one of the first Mennonite pioneers, and soon thereafter stepped into service and leadership of the Alexanderwohl church as minister. Since 1874 he lived on the farm where he died on Tuesday of last week, residing almost sixty years on the same place. His death came gradually, without evident pain, and he had even talked with a relative about one hour before his death. The German addresses at the services in the church were given by Rev. C. C. Wedel, Rev. J. W. Kliewer, and Rev. J. J. Banman, while Rev. P. H. Unruh spoke in the English language. Active pallbearers were Rev. P. H. Richert, Rev. C. E. Krhbiel [sic Krehbiel], Rev. John Plenert, Rev. p. P. Buller, Rev. G. N. Harms, and Rev. J. H. Epp. Two sons of the deceased from Aberdeen, Ida., Henry and John were present for the funeral, while one daughter, Mrs. Helen Schmidt of Salem, Ore., found it impossible to come. Other surviving children are Mrs. C. R. Voth and Frank M. Banman of Goessel.
