ERIKA MARTENS

Erika Martens of Clearbook passed way Oct. 10. She was born June 16, 1939 to Heinrich and Maria Janzen in Steinbach, Man. In 1947 they moved to Yarrow, B.C. She was raised in a Christian home, accepted Jesus at an early age and was baptized in 1953 in Yarrow MB Church. She attended Bible school in Caronport, Sask., then travelled around the world by herself. She married Bob Martens Dec. 4, 1971. They lived in North Delta, B.C. and attended Kennedy Heights MB Church, where she served in ladies fellowship, choir and singing groups. In 1985 they moved to Clearbrook and joined Central Heights MB Church, where she served in choir and Fellowship Bible Studies. She was interested in painting, sewing, crafts and gardening. She encouraged family gatherings, had a great sense of humour and enioyed giving herself to others. Cancer was diagnosed in January, 1988, but with the help of her sister Mary and parents-in-law Jake and Sue Martens, she was able to spend her last days at home. Her spiritual walk strengthened through the Word, tapes, books and other ministries. She was concerned for her children's well-being and spiritual walk and was instrumental in her husband's Christian growth, serving him as a listener and faithful friend. Predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister, she is mourned by her husband; son Jeff; daughter Heather and 4 sisters.
