MRS. CLARA MARTIN

Clara Slabaugh Martin was born near Kokomo, Ind. On Sept. 22, 1880, daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Schrock) Slabaugh, and died Oct. 27, 1953, at the same home where she was born. She reached the age of 73 years, one month and five days. She had been in failing health the past four years, but death came unexpectedly.

She accepted Christ in 1902 while attending the Elkhart Institute and was a faithful member of the Mennonite church until death. She was faithful in church attendance as long as health permitted. She was much interested in the work of the church and taught a Sunday school class for a number of years.

On Feb. 16, 1907, she was united in marriage to Joseph Martin of Hopedale, Ill., who survives. Ten children were born to this union, five sons and five daughters. One son died in infancy.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are the children, Laurel, Melvin, Mrs. Isadore (Beulah) Powell, all of Greentown, Route 2, Raymond of Kokomo, Willard of Bremen, Mrs. Menno (Velma) Litwiller of Goshen, Mrs. Sanford (Inez) Litwiller of Morton, Ill., Rose and Ruth at home; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister, Niles of Kokomo, John of Route 4, Goshen, Albert of Alto, Mich., Dr. Jancy S. of Nappanee, and Mrs. Simon (Lida) Birkey of Amboy.

Funeral services were held at the Howard-Miami Mennonite church Oct. 30 at 2:00 p.m., in charge of Emanuel Hostetler and Anson Horner. Burial was made in the Schrock cemetery.
