Former Editor of “Rundschau” Dies

DR. HERMAN NEUFELD ESTABLISHED PUBLISHING HOUSE IN WINNIPEG

Winnipeg, Man. — Funeral services for Dr. Herman Neufeld, 69, former minister, publisher and editor of this city, were conducted Jan. 2 at the South End M. B. church here, of which he was a former pastor.

Dr. Neufeld, who served as editor of “Die Mennonitische Rundschau” from 1923 to 1945, died at Vancouver, B. C. on Dec. 28.

Born in Russia where he also received his early education, Dr. Neufeld and his family escaped from Russia to Germany after World War I, coming to Canada in 1920. He was appointed editor of the “Rundschau” in 1923 when the paper was being printed by the Mennonite Publishing House at Scottdale, Pa.

After a period of residence at Scottdale, he established the Rundschau Publishing House in Winnipeg and moved the paper here. Following the death of his first wife in 1944 he sold the business to devote full time to the ministry. He later received his doctorate from United college and served as a missionary under the United Church Mission Board in northern Manitoba and also in Vancouver.
