GUST MILLER
Gust Miller was born Dec. 7, 1878, to John and Marie (Hubin) Miller in Austria. At an early age he came to the United States with his parents and settled on a farm northwest of Butterfield, Minn. Here he attended school and grew to manhood.
In May 1896 he was baptized upon confession of his faith and became a member of the Mennonite church. A few years later his parents sold the farm and he moved with them to Sarona, Wisconsin.
Mr. Miller always had a strong desire to be engaged in business and this wish was fulfilled when he returned to Butterfield and in May 1904, went into partnership with Jacob Rupp in the grocery business.
On Oct. 1, 1905, he was united in marriage to Kate Rupp and to this union three sons were born, Harry, Oliver and Winfred.
In 1907 he dissolved partnership and purchased the J. J. Harder building, where he started a grocery and dry goods business under the name of The Miller Store. He took much pride in pleasing his customers and never forgot to take a sack of candy along when he went visiting where there were children in the home.
