— Funeral services were held at the Goessel Mennonite church Tuesday afternoon for John A. Reimer of Canton, who died at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Bethesda hospital, Goessel, after being a patient there for three months. Rev. Orlin Frey, the pastor, was in charge of the services. Mr. Reimer, who was 63, is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Harvey Schmidt and Mrs. Rudy Woelk.

JOHN A. REIMER

John A. Reimer, son of Abraham and Maria (Schroeder) Reimer was born November 7, 1889, in McPherson county, Kansas.

He received his elementary training in the North Blumenfeld grade school and continued his education in the Goessel Preparatory school. He spent all but one year on the same farm.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour May 15, 1910, by Elder Abraham Ratzlaff and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church. Later when the Goessel Mennonite church was organized, he became one of the charter members and remained a faithful member until his death.

He was united in marriage to Justina Enz December 23, 1917, by Rev. P. P. Buller. This union was blessed with two daughters, Lorene and Betty, who brought much joy to their home. They were permitted to share life’s joys and sorrows together for 35 years and three days.

His health was reasonably good until last harvest time when he began to suffer illness, and it became necessary for him to undergo a serious operation on October 14. For a few days it seemed as though he was regaining strength, but later his strength began to decline and he became weaker day by day. We are confident that according to the will of the Lord his work here on earth was finished. He was called to his reward on December 26, 1952, reaching the age of 63 years, one month, and 19 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his deeply bereaved wife Justina of the home, Rural Canton, Kansas; Lorene, Mrs. Rudy Woelk, husband and three children, Janet, Judy and Jon, of Rural Newton, Kansas; Betty, Mrs. Harvey Schmidt, husband and three children, Bruce, Barbara, and Jimmy, of Rural Newton; four brothers, Aron Reimer and wife of Denver, Colorado, Henry and wife of Rural Canton; Gus of Rural Newton, and Ben of Rural Canton; one sister, Maria, Mrs. Jacob Loewen and husband of Newton; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Abe S. Reimer of Goessel, and many relatives and friends. His brother Abraham preceded him in death by five months.

He was a kind and gentle father, a good and loving husband. He loved his grandchildren dearly, and they will miss him greatly. During his illness in the hospital he found much strength and joy in the prayers, Scripture meditations, and hymns that were sung at his bedside. Some of the passages of Scripture which were repeatedly quoted to him and which brought him much joy were the following: Isaiah 43:1 and John 14:2, 3.

Funeral services were held in the Goessel Mennonite church on December 30, 1952, under the direction of Rev. Orlin Frey. The following ministers gave messages at the services: Rev. P. A. Wedel and Rev. H. B. Schmidt. Rev. P. P. Buller had charge of the services in the Bergen funeral home. — Mrs. John A. Reimer and Children.
