Peter S. Ma~tens was born ,in Scha'nz' e' nfeld, Mani,toba 'On February 20, 1'888 to Jacob and- Maria Martens. In th-e early y,e'ars 'O'f this century he moved to He ~be rt and eveontuaHy t'O'Ok up a home'ste'ad fom mi'les southwes't of Main Centre, Sask. He was married to Marie WaH on 'Mar,ch 16, 1913. Theirun'ion was b'l'e'ssed with six s'ons, aH 'Of whom survive their fatheIn 1930 through the ministry o,f missionary Frank Wiens, he 'ac:cepted the L'o -rd Jes'Uls 'as his persona:1 Siaviour and I'ater that year, upon ,t,he con'fe'slsion o,f his fa'ith a,nd baptism, he was accepted 'into the Main Centre MB 'Churc'h. ·Mr. M 'artens was alctive 'in church and community affairs, served 'On 'the ,church co'unci'l 'as we'" as in other church commitotee's at both Malin 'Cen'tre and Herbert, and als'o as !Iocal municipal, coun'OiHmand ,director olf the Pi'Oneer Co-'Op Association 'Of Swi'ft Current. He 'is survived by his beloved wife, Sara'h; six sons, Otto o'f Ma:in Centre, Fr,ed O'f Vii-ctoria, Sam of Cal'g~lry, Roy, a missionary to India, Rueben 'Of Ma,in Centre and Tony of Burnaby, -B.C.; rom s'tep-c'hHdren, Victor Cornelson 'O,f . Swift Current, Clara (Mrs. Frank) K'I'ippens't'ein, Main Centre, Anne (!Mrs . Harry) Lansberry, Herbert, and Wilma (Mrs. John) Adrian, Saskatoon; 21 grandchildren and nine ,grea'tgrandchoildren.
