KATHERINA WARKENTIN

(Mrs. ) Katherina W arkentin was born Septem ber 12, 1884,in Michelsburg, Fuerstenland, in southern Russia, the eldest of ten children born to Pett;!r and Helena W,iebe. Here she spent her childhood and youth. Early in life she accepted the Lord J es us Christ as her personal Saviour and in 1921 she was baptized and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren church. After her conversion she greatly enjoyed singing in th e church choir. She was married to Kornelius Warkentin of Steinfeld, B'Oratower District, ,in 1902. After several y ears they established th eir home in the Arkadak settlement. In 1925, however, they left Russia to find a home in Canada . They settled first in the Borden, Sask., area and then after a few years moved to Mar,garet, Man. From Margaret, where they resided for 11 years, they moved to Vancouver in 1941, and in 1945 onto a farm near Haney, B.C. In 1950 they left the farm to retire to Clearbrook, B.C. She was predeceased by he( husband in 1957. At Clearbrook she greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the believers which she had missed at Haney. Her last years were spent with her daughter, Maria Durksen, of Clea rbrook She was called to her eternal home on November 30. She is survived by three sons 'and six daughters, Mrs. Julius (Maria) Durksen, Clearbrook, Mrs. Peiter (Tina) Hedekopp, Mission, B.C., Mrs. Archie (Helen) St. Louis, Hedley, B.C., Neil, Haney, B.C., Mrs. Dietrich (Anne) Fr-iesen, Fresno, Calif., F'rank, Peachland, B.C., Mrs. John (Susan) Duerksen, K'illarney, Man., Mrs. John (Elsie) Siemens, Abb'Otsford, and Allan, B'irch Island, B.C.; their wives and husbands; 35 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; a brother in Russia and many friends and relatives.
