Mrs. Effie Schmidt, 83, widow of John J. Schmidt and former resident of the Pawnee Rock community, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clinton Koppes in North Newton, with whom she made her home. Funeral services are to take place Thursday afternoon at the Bergtal Mennonite church, Pawnee Rock. Mrs. Schmidt is survived by two daughters, Mrs. H. P. Kliewer of Tulsa, Okla. and Mrs. Koppes; three sons, Anton of Pawnee Rock, Glenn of Santa Anna, Calif., and John J., Jr. of Pelisan Rapids, Minn.; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
