NEWTON & VICINITY
Jacob H. Schmidt, 96, died Dec. 23 at his home in Goessel. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Orlando Waltner officiating. Schmidt was married in 1914 to Helena Nickel and they lived in Marion County since that time except for about 18 years when they lived in Newton. Survivors include the widow; one son, Elmer of rural Peabody; one daughter, Selma (Mrs. Paul) Duerksen of rural Hillsboro; and three grandchildren.
