ADOLPH FRANTZ

Dr. Adolph I. Frantz, 91, died March 18, 1986, at Bakersfield, Calif. Funeral services were held March 21, 1986, at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, with Lyle Cunningham officiating. Interment was in Shafter Memorial Park.

He was born March 20, 1894, to John and Elizabeth Schroeder Frantz at Durham, Kan.

He attended elementary school in Durham. His high school years were spent at Tabor Academy, Hillsboro, where he received his B.A. degree in 1913. He received his master’s degree from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from Yale University.

On June 17, 1917, he married Helen Rogalsky. He was a teacher of foreign languages at Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kan., McPherson (Kan.) College, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Penn., and the University of Arizona, Tempe, Ariz. They moved to Shafter in 1965. He was honored at Tabor College’s 75th anniversary as the oldest living alumnus.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Robert Frantz, Grant’s Pass, Ore.; two daughters, Evelyn Heydon of Sacramento, Calif., and June Tyler of Wilmington, Del.; three sisters, Anna Gaede of Reedley, Calif., and Minnie Pankratz and Martha Wiebe, both of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
