JACOB ARON MARTENS

Jacob Aron Martens died peacefully Aug. 25. He was born October 13, 1914 in Ukraine to Aron and Helena Martens. Jacob saw the cruelty and devastation that an- archy and rebellion brought to their peaceful life. Famine ravaged the land, but MCC res- cued many who would have starved to death. Jacob moved to Yarrow, B.C in 1930, where he laboured in hop yards, built roads, and worked on farms. In 1938 he married Katie Riesen and together they managed a dairy farm in Sumas Prairie for 20 years. He was heavily involved in church as a deacon for 25 years, along with ra- dio ministry. Jacob had a warm, compassionate, and godly spirit, with a genuine acceptance that made everyone feel welcome in his company. He is mourned by Katie; daughter Frieda (John) Neufeld; 2 grandchildren; brothers Aron and Victor (Beth). The memorial service was Aug. 31 at Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C.
