MARY EPP

Mary Epp was born to John C. and Katherine Regier Epp on April 27, 1902 in Harvey County, Kansas and departed to be with the Lord on Dec. 24, 1971 in Hutchinson, Kan. She spent her happy, carefree days on the farm.

At the age of six she, with the rest of the family, transferred her home to a farm three miles southeast of Buhler. Here Mary grew up, attended the Lake Side School and assumed the duties that come with farm life. She was very conscientious to do her assigned work at home and school neatly and accurately. She never neglected Bible reading, prayer and church attendance.

Early realizing that she needed salvation, she repented of her sins and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. On Aug. 20, 1922 she was baptized by Rev. A. M. Martens and received as a member of the Hebron Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member.

In 1938 Mary with her sister Elizabeth and father took up their residence in the city of Buhler. Here while in moderate good health she was busy for many years doing house work.

In the last three months she was compelled to lay down her work and in the last three weeks her health rapidly declined. Once more she evaluated her life and remarked: "Life is no plaything." She had concern for the welfare of all of us and for the church. Her comfort was in I Peter 5:7: "Casting all your cares upon Him, for he careth for you," stating, "I am ready to go home if God calls me."

Preceding her in death were an infant brother, Cornelius, and her father and mother. Surviving her are three sisters, Elizabeth of the home, Katherine and husband A. M. Fehdrau, Agatha and husband J. W. Kroeker; three brothers, Henry and wife Anna, Abraham and wife Esther, and John and wife Tena Mae; six nephews and six nieces, and many relatives and friends. — The Family.
