Metamora, Ill. — Funeral services were held here Friday, Feb. 12, for Bishop Henry R. Schertz, 67, at the Metamora Mennonite church of which he was pastor for 34 years.
The services were conducted by Bishop S. C. Yoder, president emeritus of Goshen College, Goshen, Ind., and Bishop A. C. Good of Sterling. Aside from the congregation, friends and acquaintances from far and near attended.
Bishop Schertz died quite unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Methodist Hospital, Peoria, where he had been a patient one day. He had suffered from an infected blood vessel while on a recent trip to Florida but was apparently on the way to recovery.

He was born in Tazewell county Ill. Feb. 24, 1886, a son of Peter and Magdalena Esch Schertz. His first wife, Martha Imhoff Schertz died May 2, 1947, and on April 17, 1951, he married Ruth Springer of Hopedale. Surviving are his wife, four sons four sisters, two brothers and 10 grandchildren.
