ELSIE SCHROEDER

Elsie Schroeder passed away Sept. 20. She was born Mar. 14, 1914 to Jacob S. and Sarah Schroeder in Main Centre, Sask. She accepted Jesus during her youth, was baptized in the South Saskatchewan River and joined Main Centre MB Church. In 1942 her parents retired from the farm and she moved with them to Vancouver. She cared for her parents and sick sister Anne. Anne died, then her mother and then her father in October, 1957. Although she had only elementary education, her strong faith in God and willingness to persevere helped her return to school and gain a practical nursing certificate. She was hired at Vancouver Children's Hospital, where she worked until retirement. She is remembered as a sister and aunt who spoke freely of her love for the Lord, practised her gift of hospitality and dearly loved her nieces and nephews. In February, 1990 she moved to a long-term care facility and was happy to be under someone else's care. II Tim. 4:7-8 was chosen for her grave marker. Predeceased by 2 brothers and 3 sisters, she is mourned by her sister Mary Neufeld of Vancouver and brothers Ben and Henry of Herbert, Sask. She was a member of Fraserview MB Church in Richmond, B.C. The funeral was Sept. 24, with Herb Brandt and Art Martens ministering.
