At the age of 18 he emigrated to Canada with his parents and took up farming in Watrous, Sask. In 1931 he married Marie Wiens, a union that God blessed with five sons and five daughters. In the Watrous area Mr. Toews began a life-long ministry as a lay preacher, teacher; and choir director. His commitment to his Master showed itself in service in the' Watrous, Yarrow, Kennedy Heights, and South Abbotsford Mennonite Brethren churches. The family and friends to whom his passing gives sorrow do not "grieve as those who have no hope."
