AGANETHA MARTENS

Annie Derksen of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away July 3. She was born ,July 8, 1909 to Gerhardt and Katarina Derksen in Blumenort, Molotschna, Russia. She accepted Christ at age 10, was baptized in 1923 and joined the MB church. The family immigrated to Winkler, Man. in 1925. She attended Winkler Bible School for a year. In 1930 the family moved to a small farm in Yarrow, B.C. She did domestic work for several years, then returned home to help her parents. She was a member of Yarrow MB Church, where she sang in the choir, faithfully taught Sunday school and helped her father in a ministry of letters to Russian Mennonites. She was a much loved member of a ladies' fellowship group and is remembered for her generous hospitality. In 1968 she moved to Clearbrook, B.C., where she joined Clearbrook MB Church. She moved to Tabor Home in Clearbrook in 1978 and Menno Hospital in Abbotsford in 1979. She is survived by her only brother Jacob of Yarrow, 2 nephews and 2 nieces. The funeral was July 9 in Menno Hospital Chapel, with John E. Klassen and Peter D. Loewen ministering.
