On June 29, 1918 he was baptized and accepted into the membership of the Mennonite Brethren Church. On May I, 1925 he married Anna Ediger, and the couple moved to Canada in September of that year. The Dicks settled in Kitchener, Ontario where he served as Sunday school superintendent for some time. In 1948 he was ordained a deacon of the Mennonite Brethren congregation. A call to serve with MCC in Sao Paulo, Brazil was accepted in February, 1952, and the Dicks remained there for 12 years.
