DAVID GEORGE REDEKOPP

Born in Russia on July 22, 1912 to George and Anne Redekopp, David George Redekopp passed away in Saskatoon, Sask., on January 5. He came to Canada as an infant with his parents, settling in Kelstern, Sask. He married Lydia Wilms on February 10, 1935. The Redekopps farmed in the Kelstern district until 1946, and then moved to Hodgeville, Sask., where he worked in the Co-op store. In 1950 he accepted the position of manager of the Birsay Co-op store and held this position until failing health forced him to resign in 1976. Mr. Redekopp was a member of the Birsay Town Council and interested in all community affairs. In 1968 he was baptized and joined the Lucky Lake (Sask.) Mennonite Brethren Church; he was an usher for many years and loved to take part in all music. He suffered from back and heart trouble for a number of years, leading to hospitalization in September, 1976. Surgery and a heart attack followed, and he went home to be with the Lord on January 5. A funeral service was held at the Central Mennonite Brethren Church in Saskatoon, with Rev. Ken Sperling and Rev. Frank Froese officiating. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Lydia; one daughter, Eleanor (Mrs. Laverne Bagshaw; one son, Edward and his wife Betty; five grandchildren; three sisters, (Mrs.) Maria Dyck, (Mrs.) Katie Sapinsky and (Mrs.) Susie Giesbrecht; one brother-inlaw and two sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
