text of obituary:
ARHTUR HERMAN REMPEL
Arthur Herman Rempel was born in Sagradovka, southern Russia on June 25, 1907, the son of Herman and Katherine (nee Friesen) Rempel. He emigrated to Canada in 1926, and worked on farms in Manitoba. On August 27, 1928 he married Elizabeth Funk. Seven years later his wife passed away, leaving him with five children. On March 27, 1938 he married Agnes Penner, with whom he shared 39 years. The Rempels moved from MacAuley to La Broquerie, Man., in 1941 , and farmed there until retiring in 1970. Mr. Rempel accepted Christ as his Saviour in his youth, and while in Russia became a member of the General Conference Mennonite Church. In 1928 he was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church in Griswold, Manitoba. Christianity and service went together for him, and in 1974 he and his wife accepted a two-year assignment with MCC as house-parents in the Altona (Man.) Home for Retarded Adults. During his last days he again mentioned what a privilege this had been. A heart attack after a period of illness led to his passing on January 21. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Agnes; five sons and their wives, Art and Norma, George and Lynn, Herman and Anne, Herb and Helen, and Peter and Susan; four daughters, Tina (Mrs. Bob) Ferris, Elsie (Mrs. Bill) Cymbalist, Erna (Mrs . Windsor) Buchanan, and Mary (Mrs . David) Letkeman; 34 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers; and many relatives and friends.
