Pioneer Settler Died at Mt. Lake

Mt. Lake, Minn.—Funeral services for Mrs. Anna J. Bargen, 83, widow of Jacob I. Bargen and pioneer settler here, were held at the First Mennonite church of Mountain Lake on July 28. Rev. I. J. Dick officiated. She died July 25 at the Bethel hospital here.

Mrs. Bargen, the former Anna Balzer, was born in South Russia in 1869 and came to this country in 1878. The family pioneered in a sod house north of Mt. Lake. She was active in church and community work, serving as president of the Bethel Hospital Aid Society from 1915 to 1932.

Surviving are five children, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. A. A. Penner of Mt. Lake and Mrs. C. B. Janzen of Fontana, Calif.
