— Jacob J. Franz died Thursday Jan. 9, at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital where he had been a patient several weeks due to a heart condition. He was 80 years of age. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Rev. J. E. Entz conducting a brief service at Moody's funeral chapel, followed by services at the First Mennonite Church in charge of Rev. Arnold Epp. Since the death of Mrs. Franz in 1950, Mr. Franz had continued to live at the family home on West 23rd Street, Route 2, Newton. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Andrew Busch of Denver; four sons, Marvin, Adolph and Walter, all of the Newton vicinity, and Rudolph of Whitewater; three sisters and one brother, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

JACOB FRANZ

Our father, Jacob j. Franz, son of Jacob and Katherine Pankratz Franz, was born near Goessel, Kansas, on Nov. 25, 1877. He died at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital at Newton on Jan. 9, 1958 at the age of 80 years, one month and 15 days.

He grew up in a Christian home and received his education in the Goessel community. He received his catechism instruction by Elder Peter Balzer and was baptized upon his confession of faith June 6, 1897, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. He remained a member there until 1950 when he and mother joined the First Mennonite Church of Newton.
