— Mrs. Louise Entz, widow of G. A. Entz and a resident of the Newton vicinity since 1884, died Sunday at the age of 79. Funeral services are announced for 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First Mennonite Church, of which she was a member. Rev. Arnold Epp and Rev. J. E. Entz will officiate. Mrs. Entz was born in Germany, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J. R. Toevs. Surviving are two sons, William G. of Route 3, Newton, and Edward W. of Newton; one daughter, Mrs. H. P. Dick of Newton; two brothers, Henry H. and Rudolph F. Toevs of the Bethel Home; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MRS. GERHARD A. ENTZ

Our mother, Mrs. G. A. Entz, nee Louise Toevs, daughter of Rev. J. R. Toevs and Helena Funk Toevs, was born Dec. 23, 1878, at Sandhoff near Marienburg, West Prussia, Germany. The family came to the United States on Sept. 15, 1884, locating at McLain, Kansas, where she attended the McLain school.

She was baptized upon confession of faith by elder Rev. Jacob Toevs on June 2, 1895, and received into the membership of the First Mennonite Church, Newton, Kansas. She was a faithful and devoted member throughout her life and attended services regularly. For some years she served as a Sunday school teacher and always found joy in the study of God's Word.

On Sept. 6, 1900, she was united in marriage to Gerhard Entz and together they made their home on a farm four miles southeast of newton. However, by God's providential leading their union was to be of a short duration, being dissolved by death 17 years later on Sept. 17, 1917, when her beloved husband was called to be with the Lord.

The Lord blessed them with three children. The oldest son Arthur passed away at the age of nine years, which was a very great sorrow to her. An adopted daughter, Helen, came to the home in 1923 whom she cherished as her own daughter.

Her illness began about a year ago. However, she bore her suffering cheerfully and with fortitude, being tenderly cared for by her family. On Sunday morning Dec. 29, her spirit was released to enter the presence of the Lord whom she loved dearly and served faithfully.

She reached the age of 79 years and six days. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, William Entz and wife Hazel; Edward Entz and wife Betty; one daughter, Helen Dick and husband Harry; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Henry Toevs and Rudolph Toevs, both of the Home for Aged; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband, one granddaughter, Elise Entz, her son Arthur, her only sister, Mrs. C. F. Claassen, five brothers, John Ensz, Herman Ensz, Gus Toevs, Will Toevs, and Jake Toevs.

Mother's life was characterized by the words of the apostle Paul, spoken at the end of his life as recorded in II Timothy 4:7, 8: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
