MRS. SUSANNA CULP UNRUH

Mrs. Susanna Culp Unruh was born Sept. 30, 1872, at Elkhart, Ind. and passed away at the Bethel home, Montezuma, Kansas on Feb. 28, 1957, at the age of 84 years, four months and 29 days.

In her youth she with her parents came to Kansas, living at Hesston. In 1902 they bought a farm northeast of Halstead where her parents passed away.

At the age of 28 years she accepted Christ as her Saviour and upon this received remission of sins. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on Dec. 30, 1901, being a faithful member unto death.

On Feb. 28, 1909, she was united in marriage to Gerhardt Unruh. The [sic] lived in the Halstead community for a number of years. Later they purchased a home in Newton, Kansas where her husband passed away on Oct. 10, 1941, having shared joys and sorrows for 32 years. After the death of her husband, her life was lonesome. She did much sewing for others which she enjoyed. It was her utmost desire to serve the Lord. She took great delight in reading her Bible. Being alone she ever felt the presence and the guidance of an unseen Hand.

The last two years were spent at the Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas, where she received loving Christian care. She was in fair health until three days before her death. She had a great desire to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. At two o'clock Thursday afternoon, Feb. 28, it pleased our Heavenly Father to relieve her of all suffering and she peacefully fell asleep.

She leaves to mourn her departure one step son, Noah Myers of Newton, Kansas; one foster son Arthur Wolfe of Lomita, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Miller of New Carlisle, Ind. and Mrs. Emma Spangler of Ogden, Utah, and other more distant relatives. Her parents, one brother and three sisters preceded her in death.

Memorial services for Mrs. Unruh were held in the Grace Mennonite Church west of Halstead on March 4 at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Carl Dirks in charge. Other Ministers participating in the services were Rev. Arnold Wiggers, Rev. Paul Becker and Rev. Kenneth Smith. The church coris [sic] furnished the music. Kaufman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and she was laid to rest in the Meridian Cemetery at Hesston, Kansas.
