— The aged G. B. Kliewer, 90, a resident of the Mission Home in Hillsboro, died at the Salem Hospital there Saturday. Fnueral [sic] services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl Church near Goessel, Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating. Surviving are five children, Herman of Moundridge, Jack of Great Bend, Arthur of Chico, Cal., Mrs. J. J. Warkentin of Inman and Mrs. W. J. Banman of Canton; and four step-children, Mrs. J. H. Martins of Hinton, Okla., Lena Goertz, Susie Janzen and D. D. Reimer of Newton.

GERHARD B. KLIEWER

Gerhard B. Kliewer was born in South Russia to Rev. G. G. and Katherine Becker [Kliewer] Oct. 18, 1865. His mother passed away in South Russia and left Gerhard and four sisters motherless.

Father Kliewer then married Sara Quiring. To this union three children were born, but only Henry lived. The mother died just before the 1874 emigration from Russia to America. Gerhard, his small brother and four sisters, who were dependents, and the father needed help on the voyage. Father Kliewer then married Eva Flaming, and three brothers and one sister were added to the family. The third wife died and Father Kliewer married Elizabeth Janzen. For [sic] sons were born to them.

Gerhard was baptized upon confession of faith in Christ Nov. 29, 1894, by Rev. D. Gaeddert and became a member of the Hoffnungsau church.

He was married to Mrs. Susanna Reimer Feb. 8, 1894, in the Alexanderwohl church. Rev. Dietrich Gaeddert officiated, using as a text Hebrews 4:1. To this union six children were born. One son, Gerhard, died in infancy.

Mrs. Kliewer had one daughter, Marie Boese, by her first marriage. Of her second marriage to Mr. Reimer, there were four children: Lena Reimer, Dick Reimer and Susie Reimer, and Lizzie Reimer Wiens, who died of cancer in Dec. 1921 at Moundridge, Kan.

Mother Kliewer passed away Nov. 7, 1937, at Goessel, Kan.

The family lived in Oklahoma 14 years, then moved back to Moundridge, Kan. They also lived in Goessel several years. In later years Mr. Kliewer was in the Mission Home in Hillsboro, Kan. three weeks ago he fell and since then his health had failed rapidly. He was taken to Salem Hospital on Dec. 7 and passed to his eternal reward on Dec. 10, 1955, reaching the age of 90 years, two months and 22 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure the following children: Three sons, and two daughters, Herman and family, Moundridge, Kan., Bertha and John Warkentin and family, Inman, Kan., Margaret and Will Bannman and family, Canton, Kan.,John and Ella Kliewer and family, Great Bend, Kansas, Art S. and Bernice Kliewer and family, Chino, California, three step-daughters and one step-son, Mrs. Marie Martens, husband and family of Hinton, Okla., Dick Reimer and family of Newton, Kan., Mrs. Lena Goertz and family of Newton, Mrs. Susie Janzen and family, Newton, 15 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. H. A. Ratzlaff of Newton; five half-brothers, P. G. Kliewer of Mt. View, Okla., J. F. Kliewer of Enid, Okla., F. J. Kliewer of Newport, Wash., C. J. Kliewer of Frazer, Mont., B. G. Kliewer of Salem, Ore.

Services were held at the Alexanderwohl church Dec. 13. Rev. P. A. Wedel spoke on Rev. 21:1 and I John 2:25. Rev. Elbert Koontz of Hillsboro spoke on Job 5:8. A male quartet sang.
