PIONEER BUSINESS MAN CALLED BY DEATH AT STEINBACH, MAN.

Steinbach, Man. — One of the largest funerals held here in recent years took place Feb. 8 at the E.M.B. church as the church and community paid final tribute to Jacob E. Regehr, 69, a pioneer Steinbach business man. Rev. G. S. Rempel officiated.

Mr. Regehr entered the auto sales business here in 1912, and in 1931 founded his own automotive business which is now carried on by two sons and a son-in-law. He was active in civic affairs and in his church.

JACOB E. REGEHR

Jacob E. Regehr, our beloved husband and father, was born may 2, 1885, at Hochstadt, man., where he lived with his parents and received his life and in 1931 founded the business now known at J. F. Regehr & Sons.

On May 6, 1909, he was married to Elizabeth Hiebert. To this union were born nine children. Three children and one grandchild preceded father in death.

In 1920 father and his family moved from Steinbach to Winkler, where we lived one year, then moved to California. In 1927 we came back to Steinbach, where father lived til his death.

Upon his confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour he was baptized in 1911 and joined the E.M.B. Church. He had a keen interest in the work of the church and has always been an active supporter of church work and Sunday school. He served on the church board for a number of years and was also superintendent of the Sunday school for two years. He was very regular and punctual in his attendance and thus has been a good example to his family.

He was much interested in the welfare of the community and took an active part in civic affairs. He served on the school board and was chairman of the town board prior to incorporation. He also served as chairman of the local wartime ration board and was Returning Officer for the Electorial [sic] Division of Carillon.

He enjoyed good health until four years ago when his heart ailment started. He gradually relinquished his business activities until about a year ago, when he retired completely. Last summer he was troubled with shortness of breath caused by a weak heart. The condition grew worse until he was finally taken to the hospital on Oct. 16 to get relief. He was given oxygen which proved helpful and after three weeks he felt well enough to come home again.

After several weeks at home, he contracted pneumonia and was again taken to the hospital. He thought this would be his last time he would be leaving home, but he got well enough to come home again.

About four weeks ago, instead of going to the hospital again for oxygen, the family decided to secure oxygen apparatus so father could stay at home. At first he used it mostly at night but later he had to have it most of the time. He died suddenly but peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 4:30 p. m. while sitting in his chair and visiting. He reached the age of 69 years, nine months and one day.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his beloved wife, Elizabeth, six children, Helen (Mrs. Simon Rieger,) Jacob, William, Amanda, (Mrs. Ronald Reimer,) Edwin and Clifford; 12 grandchildren; two sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law; one sister, Mrs. Jac. G. Friesen of British Columbia; one brother, A. L. Regehr of Alberta; and a host of relatives and friends.
