. . .

— A large funeral was held at the Alexanderwohl church at Goessel Tuesday afternoon, when Peter Schmidt, 80, one of the early settlers of that neighborhood, was laid to his final resting place. Mr. Schmidt died at the Goessel hospital last Friday night. While lying down at this home Monday, Dec. 5, he suffered a stroke of paralysis, which left him nearly speechless until the end. The services at the home were conducted by Rev. J. J. Banman of Newton and at the church by rev. P. H. Unruh and Rev. C. C. Wedel, and Rev. H. J. Dyck of Elbing, father-in-law of Mrs. Walter H. Dyck, a daughter of the deceased. Rev. P. P. Buller led the service at the grave.
