Tobias J. Wedel

Tobias J. Wedel, son of Jacob and Eva Ratzlaff Wedel, was born April 4, 1858, in Antonofka, Russia. he was baptised by Elder Tobias Unruh in 1874, just before emigrating from Russia. he joined the Mennonite faith and was a member wherever he made residence.

He came to America in the year of 1874, settling in the Lone Tree community near Moundridge, Kansas. In the spring of 1895, he and his family came to Meno, Oklahoma. Here and at Lahoma, he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married to Helena Koehn on December 21, 1878. To this union were born ten children, of whom seven died in infancy. His wife died December 17, 1910. The surviving children are: John and David of Goltry, Oklahoma, and Maria (Mrs. John Boehs) of Ringwood, Oklahoma.

On November 22, 1911, he was married to Mrs. Elisabeth Jantz, who, with her children, also survives him.

One only brother, Andrew, remains among the living.

There were 30 grandchildren, 7 having preceded him in death. Also 9 great-grandchildren, 3 having preceded him in death.

His last years were such that he suffered quite a bit, receiving one paralytic stroke after another.

Finally on July 28, 1937, the end came. His age: 70 years, 3 months and 24 days.
