CARPENTER KILLED IN 21-FOOT FALL FROM ROOF OF BUILDING

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Roy B. Berkey, 54, who lost his life in a fall at Columbia City, Ind., were held at the Silver Street Mennonite church near here on July 25, Rev. Daniel Graber and Rev. Allen Yoder officiating.

Mr. Berkey, employed as a carpenter by the David Bontrager contracting firm of Middlebury, was working on the roof of a new building at the Columbia City grain elevator July 22 when he lost his balance and fell 21 feet to the ground. He landed on a pile of steel I-beams, and died two hours later of multiple fractures and internal injuries.

A former cattle trucker and farmer, he is survived by his wife, who was Ruth Bowman, one son and one daughter.
